Tomb Raider
Running the GOG.com release of Tomb Raider on a Retro Gaming PC
The GOG.com release of Tomb Raider contains an image of the installation CD with Audio CD track as compressed OGG files. I covered creating an installation CD for such games on this page.
The game is Windows friendly and therefore can be played form within Windows 98. But of course it also works under MS-DOS 6.22 and MS-DOS mode of Windows 95 or 98.

Playing Tomb Raider with a 3dfx Voodoo
There are two patches that add 3dfx Voodoo support depending on what card you have. For a Voodoo use patch tomb3dfx.exe, copy it to the game folder and rename it to tomb.exe, replacing the original tomb.exe
If you use a Voodoo 2 and later use patch tombrush.exe, copy it to the game folder and rename it to tomb.exe, replacing the original tomb.exe.
Note that shadows will only display when played on the original 3dfx Voodoo card. There is no shadow on later cards. Press F2 to toggle display of frames per second. F3 toggles anti-aliasing and F4 toggles mip mapping.
A note regarding MS-DOS mode. I observed that when EMS memory is configured the game will crash when accessing the inventory. Loading MS-DOS mode with XMS memory addresses this issue.

Gamma setting
On Voodoo 2 and later cards the Gamma is set to what to appears to be around 1.0 by the patch and any Gamma settings in the driver or through environmental variables are ignored. On the original Voodoo the game sets a Gamma of what to appears to be around 1.6 and quite bright. Through environmental variables a lower Gamma of 1.0 or 1.3 can be configured which appears more suitable but is of course up to personal preference.
