How to enable DMA mode in Windows 95 or 98
DMA stands for Direct Memory Access and does two things: It speeds up data transfer and reduces CPU utilisation. In Windows 95 and 98 a simple tick box enabled and disabled DMA.
Sometimes however DMA mode is not supported and in the worst case this results in the system not booting and Windows needs to be re-installed. But there is a way to avoid this: Go into the BIOS and set the hard drive into PIO mode instead of DMA mode. The video explains all of this in detail and walks you through enabling DMA mode. |
