The "22-Bit" Output filter of the 3dfx Voodoo 3
The 3dfx Voodoo 3 does not support 24/32 Bit rendering in 3D mode. It means that with games you can only select the 16-Bit colour depth option. The Voodoo 3 has a frame buffer like other graphics cards and a 16-Bit image, with dithering, ends up in that frame buffer.
However...
Before the image goes through the DAC and to the monitor, a special filter can be activated! Set 3D Filter Quality to High and Alpha-Blending to either Sharper or Softer. Sharper will give a sharper image, but when textures are overlayed, like with smoke or explosions, a grid pattern can be visible. Softer can cause banding on sky textures in some games and look maybe too soft depending on your preference.
